DescriptionThe first tyres were moulded on March 11, 1949; 6.00-16's, both Goodyear and Dunlop.
The photo is staged; 'whiskers' made by rubber filling vent holes in the mould have been removed from the tyre; there is no tyre in the second mould, and a newly-moulded tyre would be around 150 C, yet there are no fumes.
The moulding presses are Dunlop 231s; the drive incorporated a 3/4" (19 mm) square shear pin; if this broke (and they did), the top part of the press would fall, uncontrolled.Date taken11th March 1949ThemeDunlop Tyre Factory
