Photographer UnknownDescriptionGroup of children and adults parading down Main Street, Upper Hutt, during the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, 1953-1954. There are people lining the side of the road, most of them with Union Jack flags. A placard with 'Mangaroa School' written on it can be seen. In the background are buildings with bunting. At the top left hand corner of photograph is a sign for the Shell Service Station. Also visible is a shop sign that says 'Jacobs'.

The first building at right is the Council Chamber, with a temporary dais added; next door is the Gospel Hall, which was built in 1913. By mid-1955 a new Gospel Hall was in use; the old hall had burnt down.
