Land speed record; John Cobb's Napier Railton Special

DescriptionThis car, designed by Reid Railton, broke the record on August 23, 1939, on Bonneville Salt Flats, reaching 369.7 miles an hour (595 km/h). It was powered by two Napier Lion aircraft engines, and had Dunlop tyres, and possibly Dunlop wheels.

After the war it was rebuilt as the Mobil Railton Special, and reached 394.19 mph (634 km/h) on September 16, 1947.Date takenAugust 23, 1939
